‘Metabolic disorders are increasingly prevalent in India’

Aligarh: The Department of Moalejat at Aligarh Muslim University organized a symposium, in collaboration with AIMIL Pharmaceuticals of New Delhi, on “Metabolic Disorders”.

In his lecture, Prof Badrudduja Khan, Chairman, the Department of Moalejat stated that Metabolic disorders are increasingly prevalent in India due to urbanization and dietary and lifestyle changes. Conditions like diabetes, obesity, hypertension, and dyslipidemia are on the rise, posing significant health challenges, and the management of these disorders often requires a holistic approach. He said that the traditional systems of medicine, like Unani and herbal medicine, have been playing a significant role in addressing these challenges.

He stressed that the advantage of Unani and herbal medicines lies in their potential to provide effective treatment with fewer side effects compared to conventional medications. He, however, called for the validation of the efficacy and safety of Unani and herbal medicine through scientific research and clinical trials.

“Integrating these traditional practices with modern medicine under proper supervision can lead to comprehensive treatment,” he added.

Dr Mohd Faiz, Manager of AIMIL Pharmaceuticals, shared insights into the potential of herbal medicine in managing Metabolic disorders and also gave detailed descriptions of products of AIMIL Pharmaceuticals useful in such health issues.

The participants included Prof Aziz Khan, Dr Mohd Mohsin, Prof Tabassum Latafat, Dr Mursaleen Naseer, Dr Jamal Azmat, Dr S Javed Ali, Dr Sadaf, and PG Scholars of the Department of Moalejat.
