Timeless art of Urdu poetry celebrated at ‘Aligarh Mushaira’

Aligarh: The Cultural Education Centre of Aligarh Muslim University, in collaboration with Pushkin Agha of Vertex Events, hosted the much-awaited ‘Aligarh Mushaira 2024’ on November 29 in the historic Kennedy Auditorium.

‘Aligarh Mushaira 2024’ not only celebrated the timeless art of Urdu poetry but also provided a platform for nurturing young talent, blending tradition with innovation.

The event drew an enthusiastic audience of over 3,000 attendees, while another 1,000 students enjoyed a live screening on a 100-foot LED screen installed outside the venue.

The Mushaira showcased celebrated poets from the Urdu literary world, including Iqbal Ashhar, Shakeel Azmi, Mehshar Afridi, Abrar Kashif, Shabina Adeeb, AM Turaz, Azhar Iqbal, Jahaz Deobandi, Irfani Azhar, and Monika Moni.

Adding to the literary brilliance, student poets Areeb Usmani, Nizamuddin Nizami, Wasif Iqbal, and Waseem, selected through a Talent Hunt Competition, captivated the audience with their recitations. Two standout performers will earn the opportunity to participate in the international Aligarh Mushaira in Dubai.

Presiding over the event as Chief Guest was AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Naima Khatoon, while Prof Mohd Naved Khan, Coordinator of the CEC, attended as the Guest of Honour. The proceedings were conducted by Waseem.

The Mushaira attracted several distinguished university figures, including Prof Mohd Mohsin Khan, Prof Wasim Ali, Prof Nishat Fatima, Prof Iffat Asgar, Prof Feza Tabssum Azmi, Prof Nazia Hasan, Prof Asiya Chaudhary, Prof Anwar Shahzad, Dr Khurram Nisar, Dr Ahmad M Siddiqui, Prof Sheeba Hamid, Dr Faraz Farooq among others.

The event was managed by the Secretaries of the Cultural Clubs, Innama Zehra, Mohd Shams Uddoha Khan, Arham Ullah Khan, Umair Khan, Salik Tariq, Mohd. Abdal, Zamin Jaseem and Mohd Anas, the event was proof of AMU’s cultural vibrancy.
