Aligarh: The Department of West Asian and North African Studies at Aligarh Muslim University organized an extension lecture on "The Flow and Ebb of Third Wave Democracy - Focus on Southern Africa," by Dr. Nandini Patel, an Adjunct Professor at the Malawi School of Government and the Founder & Executive Director of the Institute for Policy Interaction in Malawi of Africa, who shared insights into the intricate dynamics of democracy in Southern Africa.
The programme commenced with rich tributes paid to Mahatma Gandhi, marking the martyr’s day.
Dr Patel explored the complexities of Third Wave Democracy in the specific context of Southern Africa, offering a comprehensive understanding of the region's political landscape. A lively question-and-answer session followed the lecture.
Earlier, welcoming the guest speaker, Prof. Mohammad Azher, Chairman, Department of West Asian and North African Studies emphasized the significance of the lecture in understanding the socio-political landscape of Southern Africa.
Prof. Jawaid Iqbal provided opening remarks, while Dr. Imtiaz Ahmed, the Programme Convener, introduced the guest speaker and provided a context of the lecture.
Prof. Mirza Asmer Beg, Dean, the Faculty of Social Sciences, delivered concluding remarks, summarizing key takeaways from the lecture.
Prof. Rakshanda F. Fazli extended a vote of thanks. Sana Noor conducted the programme.
