Week-long National Art Exhibition opens at AMU

Aligarh: A mesmerizing collection of artwork, including oil and acrylic paintings, captivated art enthusiasts at the National Art Exhibition inaugurated at the Moinuddin Ahmad Art Gallery at Aligarh Muslim University.

The week-long exhibition features contributions from fine arts students and faculty members from the university and other institutions, celebrating artistic excellence and creative expression.

Inaugurating the exhibition, Vice Chancellor Prof Naima Khatoon commended the participating artists for their innovative and thought-provoking creations. As she viewed the exhibits, she engaged in discussions with the artists, who elaborated on their inspirations and techniques.

Speaking on the occasion, she remarked that art serves as a powerful medium of self-expression and cultural reflection. She appreciated the creativity displayed by young artists and emphasized that exhibitions like these provide them with a valuable platform to showcase their talent to a wider audience.

The guest of honour, former director of the Institute of Persian Studies, Prof Azarmi Dukht Safavi emphasized the deep connection between art and literature, stating that visual art and literature have always been intertwined, with each form influencing and enhancing the other. She added that the diverse range of artwork exhibited is a testament to the rich artistic heritage nurtured at the university.

Another guest of honour, the dean of the faculty of arts, Prof Rizwan Khan highlighted the significance of such exhibitions in fostering artistic dialogue and appreciation. He noted that art transcends boundaries and speaks a universal language. The exhibition, he said, not only showcases technical prowess but also reflects the emotions, aspirations, and cultural narratives of the time.

Earlier, welcoming the guests, the coordinator of the art gallery, Prof Badar Jahan highlighted the significance of the National exhibition, stating that the exhibition provides the opportunity for young and emerging artists to showcase their talent along with the work of eminent and senior artists coming from different parts of the country, including from New Delhi, Kerala, Banaras, Punjab, Haryana, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh, Rajasthan and Telangana.

The Vice-Chancellor and the guests of honour released the catalogue of the exhibition, and later, one of the artists from Punjab, Pramod Gautam gifted one of his artwork to the Vice Chancellor Prof Naima Khatoon.

The week-long exhibition will conclude on March 3.
