Aligarh: Deliberations on sustainable growth and the way urban areas should carry out activities of resource use were made in the symposium on ‘Sustainable Urban Development: Bridging the gap between SDGs and Legislations’ organized by the Environmental Awareness Cell, Law Society, Faculty of Law, Aligarh Muslim University in partnership with the Municipal Corporation of Aligarh on December 7.

Prof Mohammad Ashraf, Dean, Faculty of Law, highlighted the significance of sustainability in growing urbanization.

“By prioritizing sustainable urbanization within a broader development framework, many development challenges can be addressed in tandem”, he said.

Prof Md Zafar Mehfooz Nomani, Department of Law, discussed the challenges of creating smart cities and the importance of robust solar energy infrastructure.

In the welcome address, Prof Mohammad Tariq, Incharge of the Law Society, Faculty of Law, called for action to secure resources and smarter solutions for Sustainable Development Goals.

Prof Mohd Rihan, Department of Electrical Engineering, spoke on the direct and indirect implications of global warming.

Pooja Shrivastava, Assistant Municipal Commissioner of Aligarh, discussed the Smart City concept and the work for making cities more sustainable and developed.

She also talked about solar energy and integrated waste management.

Khan Amadur Rehman, Department of Architecture, delineated the components of Sustainable Development Goals. 

Mehre Emaan, Incharge of the Environmental Awareness Cell, Law Society, with other Law Society members conducted the programme.

Akash Varshney, Vice President of the Law Society, extended the vote of thanks.
