Aligarh: The Department of Geography at Aligarh Muslim University is organizing a three-day international conference on ‘Global Climate Change: Resilient Society and Sustainable Development’ from September 28 to 30. The conference also marks the centenary celebration of the Department of Geography.
The Chairman of the department, Prof Nizamuddin informed that the conference aims at bringing to fore the critical and serious challenges, including climate change and global warming and its impact on society, economy, agriculture, ecology and biodiversity in contemporary world.
The inaugural function of the conference will be held on September 28 in Kennedy Auditorium. Dr Prithvish Nag, former Director of NATMO will be the chief guest. Dr M Ravichndran, Secretary at Ministry of Earth Sciences will address the function as a keynote speaker, and Prof Anindita Datta, Vice President of IGU and Prof Vibhash Chandra Jha, Advisor (Academics and administration) at Central University of Orissa, will share the dice as guests of honour.
More than 250 delegates from different universities of the country and abroad are expected to participate and present papers in about 30 conference technical sessions.
Two extra-ordinary sessions also have been scheduled for memorial lectures on AMU’s eminent geographers, including EW Dawn, Prof Muzaffar Ali, Prof M Shafi, Prof Moonis Raza, Prof Enayat Hussain, Prof AL Singh, Prof P Dayal and Prof SM Rafiullah.
The conference is being organized with the financial support from ICSSR, SERB DST, Ministry of Earth Science and Ministry of Water Resources.
