AMU students get AWSAR-DST Award



Aligarh: Two AMU students from the Department of Zoology, Aligarh Muslim University have won the AWSAR-DST Award for the year 2022.

Abdur Rouf Samim and Homa Fatma received the prestigious award for their respective works on "A novel approach to remediate nanoparticles using a fungus, Pleurotusfossulatus" and "Light at the end of the tunnel", competing with about 7000 entries for the award. They have received a cash prize of Rs.10,000/- and a certificate.

Augmenting Writing Skills for Articulating Research (AWSAR-DST) is an initiative by DST-India to spread Indian research stories among the common masses in a format that is easy to understand to a non-specialist. Under this initiative, doctoral and postdoctoral scholars are invited to write their research in a story format during their scholarship tenure and participate nationally.

Rouf is working under the supervision of Dr. Huma Vaseem on the toxic analysis of the Nickel Oxide Nanoparticles in live fish and its bioremediation using a fungal species, while Homa Fatma is working on the chemosensitization of liver cancer using Lupeol obtained from natural sources, under Dr. Hizur Rahman Siddique.
