AMU leads the way in promoting Yoga

Aligarh: Strengthening its commitment to holistic education and well-being, Aligarh Muslim University organised a Yoga Awareness Programme through its Department of Modern Indian Languages.

The event served as a platform to highlight the relevance of Yoga in contemporary life and promote its adoption as a powerful tool for physical, mental, and emotional wellness.

Yoga is far more than a physical discipline—it is a way of life rooted in awareness, balance, and purpose. As Prof TN Satheesan, Dean, Faculty of Arts, emphasized in his inaugural address, “Yoga nurtures clarity, inner strength, and lasting peace. It guides us to align thought, speech, and action, promoting mindfulness in all we do.”

“When embraced as a daily, holistic practice—not just a set of exercises—Yoga becomes a powerful tool for transformation. It is not a race, but a journey, to be undertaken ‘shanaih shanaih’—gently and gradually—with patience, discipline, and dedication. Let us carry the spirit of Yoga beyond the mat and into every aspect of our lives”, he added.

The keynote address was delivered by Prof Syed Tariq Murtaza from the Department of Physical Education, who also serves as the Nodal Officer for the Yoga Programme. He outlined the foundational principles of Yoga and elaborated on its scientific and therapeutic benefits. Emphasising the integration of Yoga into modern routines, he remarked that Yoga offers a sustainable path to well-being amidst the pressures of daily life.

Dr Taher H Pathan, who coordinated the programme along with Khasim Khan, delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the participation of students, faculty, and staff. He stressed the importance of institutional efforts in promoting Yoga as a lifestyle practice.

The programme reflected the transformative power of Yoga and its relevance in today’s fast-paced world.
