Agra: Agra’s tourism industry is upbeat as a major demand hanging fire for decades, for air connectivity with major destinations in the country, has been partially fulfilled.
Flights for Bhopal, Jaipur, Bhopal, Mumbai, Bengaluru are now available. An Indigo flight from Ahmedabad became operational on Monday. The Kheria airport of Agra, part of the Air Force base station, is seeing a lot of frenzied activity. Efforts are on to provide an independent access road to the airport. Work on the new terminal building has been completed.
Local tourism industry leaders have welcomed the introduction of flights to and from Agra. “Due to the pandemic, the number of domestic tourists has shown a downward trend, but the city’s business fraternity stands to gain a lot from the flights to Mumbai and Ahmedabad. A large number of students and those working in the IT sector will benefit from the air connectivity to Bangaluru,” said Surendra Sharma, founder president of the Agra Hotels and Restaurants Association.
