Agra: Days before the coming municipal elections, the Yogi Adityanath government has opened the strings of the purse of the exchequer. The UP chief minister addressing a “ prabuddh jan” rally at the Telegraph ground, Monday evening, announced a slew of projects for the city.
Yogi said Agra would be developed as a hub of IT industries and educational activities. The city was cleaner, smarter, and safer now, after recent initiatives of the state government. He promised to take up Yamuna's cleanliness drive as a priority. Also, more flights would be available for other cities.
The rising tide of disenchantment with the BJP-ruled municipal corporation has created some uncertainty, but the party managers are hopeful that the BJP would romp home comfortably in the coming elections.
Agra has ten BJP MLAs, one mayor, and three MPs. For three decades, the BJP has been in power in the corporation.
But the locals feel civic conditions in the Taj city have not changed drastically. A lot remains to be done. The question of a barrage on the Yamuna, the upgradation of Kheria as an International Airport, the high court bench, and the International stadium, is hanging fire for a long time.
