Aligarh: The Centre of Continuing and Adult Education and Extension at Aligarh Muslim University organised a lecture on “Financial Literacy” by Aqeel-ur-Rehman, an expert in the stock market for the learners to understand how to grow financial skills, including personal financial management, budgeting and investment.
The lecture was chaired by Prof Mohd Tariq, Department of Economics.
Aqeel-ur-Rehman said that financial literacy makes one capable of having a smart relationship with money, which helps people manage the financial aspects of their lives. He urged the learners to get acquainted with the basics of financial literacy, including short-term borrowing, long-term budget forecasting and management of debt.
In his presidential remarks, Prof Mohd Tariq emphasized the need for money management which broadly refers to the process of recording and administering an individual’s, household or organizations’ finances, and investment and portfolio management. He said that poor money management can lead to cycles of debt and financial strain.
The Director of the Centre Dr Shamim Akhtar urged the learners to create a diary in which they record day-to-day expenses and periodically analyse the overall expenditure to manage their money or help people in their circle how to manage their wealth. He also extended a vote of thanks.
