As London celebrates Europe’s biggest architecture festival, India now has a reason to resonate with the very mood of revelry and feel profoundly proud.
Dikshu Kukreja, the world-renowned urban planner and the Managing Principal of CP Kukreja Architects has been invited to the London Festival of Architecture to exhibit to the western world the evolution of Indian architecture and design practices, over the span of the last five decades.
Kukreja is the first and foremost Indian architect and urban planner to be invited to the prestigious podium, where the best minds of the architect-diaspora congregate annually.
The event will be held on the 24th of June at Lalit London, UK.
At the exhibition, Kukreja will explore landmark buildings from the 1970s and 80s that contributed to the birth of a unique architectural identity for a newly independent India.
Further, he will elucidate on the 1990s and 2000s architectural practice through exploratory and investigative projects which unleashed the experimental zeal and broke the conventions—as the economic liberalization ushered in endless possibilities in terms of new-age materials and technology.
Moving into the 21st century Kukreja will discuss the contemporary practices in the field of Indian architecture at the forefront of cutting-edge innovation and sustainability while being rooted in the local context.
Eminent dignitaries to be present at the occasion are Vinay Sahasrbuddhe, President of India Council Of Cultural Relations and Member of Parliament; Amish Tripathi, Director Nehru Centre, London; Ashita Agnihotri, Architect and Policy Lead, British High Commission; and Rosa Rogina, Director London Festival Of Architecture.
