Aligarh: Prof Atish Chattopadhyay, Vice-Chancellor of Vijaybhoomi University highlighted the importance of personality development and pressed for business schools to teach students how to put their best foot forward, where it matters.

He was speaking as the Chief Guest in the online workshop on ‘Personality Development and Building Self-Confidence’ of the Department of Business, Faculty of Management Studies and Research, Aligarh Muslim University.

Prof Atish deliberated the necessary etiquette, well-roundedness, confidence, communication skills, time management and discipline required for students to land plum jobs.

Delivering the presidential remarks, AMU Vice-Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor emphasised the role of teamwork, communication and knowledge in the overall personality development.

He said: “Effective Communication skills play a crucial role in honing one’s personality. Communication helps individuals to express themselves in the most convincing way. Your thoughts, feelings and knowledge should be passed on in the most desirable manner”.

In the welcome address, Prof Salma Ahmed, Dean, FMSR, spoke about how just a positive attitude can be a game-changer.

“Students should speak really well to make a mark of their own. Remember, no one would take you seriously if you do not master the art of expressing yourself clearly and in the most convincing manner”, she said.

Prof Jamal Ahmad Farooqui, Chairman, Department of Business Administration, discussed personality development as a lifelong dynamic process, in which each step is influenced by the previous one.

Prof Feza Tabassum Azmi, Organizing Secretary, presented an overview of the workshop.

She also conducted the first session of the programme on the ‘Dominant Traits, Strengths and Weaknesses of Individuals through self-assessing Exercises and Images’.

In the second session conducted by Dr Asif Ali Syed, deliberations were made on the need for providing extensive training for communication skills and personality development.

In the third session, the resource person, Saadia Rahman (Sr. Consultant, Career Moves Manpower and Consultant, New Delhi) focused on telephone, e-mail and social media etiquette.

Prof Roomana N Siddiqui, Department of Psychology, discussed stress management in the final session.

Dr Zareen Husain Farooq, Co-Organizing Secretary, conducted the programme.

Dr Tariq Aziz extended the vote of thanks.

Over 50 participants including 15 specially-abled students are attending the workshop.
