International seminar held to mark Earth Day

Aligarh: Resource persons from India and abroad called for environmental consciousness and demonstrated support for environmental protection in the international seminar on ‘Climate Change’, held to mark the Earth Day observations of the Aligarh Muslim University Eco Club at the Kennedy Hall Auditorium.

The Chief Guest, Dr Neupane, UNESCO, stressed the need for encouraging governments, corporations, and private citizens to take concrete steps toward following more sustainable practices and taking more of an active role in the Earth’s wellbeing.

The Guest of Honour, Prof Atiqur Rehman, Department of Geography, Jamia Millia Islamia, shed light on the environmental issues surrounding our planet and urged appropriate actions.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr Faiza Abbasi, UGC-HRDC, AMU, discussed the need for Great Global Cleanup, Sustainable Fashion, Climate and Environmental Literacy, Canopy Project, Food and Environment, and the Global Earth Challenge.

In the inaugural address, Prof Naushad Ahmad, Chairman, Department of Geography, spoke on the alarming situation related to the rampant increase in pollution and other activities which harm the environment.

“There is a pressing need for people to come together and implement measures for protecting biodiversity,” said Prof FS Sherani, Coordinator of Cultural Education Centre, in the welcome address.

Secretary of Eco Club and Programme Convener, Kulsum Salahuddin extended the vote of thanks.
