Aligarh: The “International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Discrimination against Women Pakhwada” was observed at the University Polytechnic, Aligarh Muslim University.
Prof. Arshad Umar, Principal of University Polytechnic welcomed the guests and talked about the need to educate girls and to make the campus safer for women students and staff members.
The chief guest, Prof. Syed Ali Nawaz Zaidi, Department of Law, presented a legal overview of the laws related to crime against women.
The guest of honour, Rachna Singh, Counsellor, Childline and Woman, Janmitra Nyas highlighted the need to control crime against women especially young girls and children.
Syyada Faheem, faculty member and convener of the Disciplinary Committee for Women, University Polytechnic, emphasized the role of women in uplifting other women by inculcating right values in children, by being the voice of the voiceless and by standing in solidarity with them.
Mayeda Qavi, a student of the University Polytechnic conducted the programme.
The event was organized by Poly Society, headed by Dr Syed Kaleem A. Zaidi.
