Washington: The CLIMATE CLOCK released an official statement that the emission reduction targets released by the Biden Administration fall dramatically short of what the scientific consensus demands.
“The deadline on the CLIMATE CLOCK is grounded in science, not politics,” said Laura Berry, CLIMATE CLOCK Research Lead. “The science tells us: we have less than seven years to take the necessary climate action to have a two-thirds chance of staying under the critical threshold of 1.5°C.”
“At face value, President Biden’s pledge seems like a doubling of climate ambition from the Obama era. But examined closely, Biden's new emissions reduction goal — 50% below a 2005 baseline by 2030 — is less than a one-third increase in the scale of emissions reductions. This falls dramatically short of what we need to do to protect people and the planet.”
