Aligarh: The Department of Periodontia and Community Dentistry of Dr Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College at Aligarh Muslim University organized a poster-making competition for undergraduate students to mark the World No Tobacco Day 2024, highlighting the theme, "Protecting Children from Tobacco Industry Interferences."
Mohd Azam and Faiza Alam Khan of Batch 2020 won the first prize, while Areeba Nasir and Abeer Aftab of Batch 2019 were declared runners-up. The prize-winning posters have been displayed in the college reception area to spread awareness for tobacco control and prevention.
Prof Neha Agrawal, Chairperson, Department of Periodontia and Community Dentistry, emphasized the importance of such events in generating public awareness. She said, "These events work as a preventive measure by educating the general public and protecting future generations from the harmful impacts of tobacco."
The posters, judged by Prof Sandhya Maheshwari, carry a message against the use of tobacco, highlighting the ill effects of tobacco consumption, especially on children.
The programme was coordinated by Prof ND Gupta, under the supervision of the Principal Prof RK Tewari.
Dr Syed Amaan Ali managed the event.
