Noida Cycling Club’s green ride to limit the impact of climate change

Noida: True to its cause of promoting cycling to help build a green and sustainable city, the Noida Cycling Club- among Asia’s biggest cycling clubs, organized a ride to limit the impact of climate change.

Fifty cyclists pedaled for a carbon-neutral city from Noida’s Great India Place Mall to Mysore Cafe at Delhi’s Teen Murti Marg. The group included participants from the age groups of 15 to 52 years. They carried placards that promoted cycling as a means to achieve a sustainable future.

Every year, the NCC organizes a ride from Noida to Delhi NCR to promote a carbon-neutral city and encourage physical activity. The club has previously organized plantation drives, where the cyclists planted trees for a green city.

Aman Puri, the founder of the Noida Cycling Club, says, “The purpose of the ride is to motivate people to take up the sport of cycling for the sake of environment, fitness, and health. Cycles are an environment-friendly mode of transport. Cycling is not just about fitness but also about conserving the environment. Cycling ensures a carbon-neutral city. The Noida Cycling Club aims to change the way cycling is perceived in the country. We organize rides and activities for all kinds of cyclists, which in turn is encouraging more people to join our club. We also encourage people to explore new places and make new friends”.

From a handful of members in 2011, the Noida Cycling Club today is a community of 5000 enthusiastic cyclists. It has organized over 1500 rides in Delhi and the NCR so far. The rides are not just about fitness but also about enjoyment, bonding, and food.

The NCC cyclists are a regular sight on the roads of Noida and the NCR on Sunday mornings. They pedal at a steady pace, wearing helmets, biking shoes, and vests.

Cycling has become the perfect outdoor activity and a way to break the monotony of staying and working from home. Even for employees who are not working from home, cycling is a refreshing break and a great way to unwind after the rigors of a hard week at work. By encouraging them to ride every weekend, the Noida Cycling Club enables its participants to remain physically and mentally fit.

The riders traverse major landmarks in Noida and Delhi. Popular destinations include Khan Market, Chandni Chowk’s famous Paranthe Wali Gali, Raj Ghat, Lodhi Garden, and Akshardham. They often stop for a warm cup of coffee or tea, Pakoras, Chole Bhatoore, or Samosas.

The NCC has also collaborated with many NGOs in the last few years and performed many social cause rides.
