Aligarh: Aligarh Muslim University observed the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26 with various departments, colleges, and schools participating in efforts to raise awareness among students about the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of vigilance against illicit drug trade.
Dr Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College and Hospital marked the day with a series of events over the past ten days, including an e-Pledge campaign, a slogan writing competition, a skit, and an awareness drive.
The e-pledge campaign encouraged faculty and students to take a solemn pledge against drug abuse. A personalized pledge link with the slogan, "Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life," was distributed, and participants received certificates.
In the Public Health Dentistry section of the Department of Periodontia and Community Dentistry, undergraduate students and interns took part in a slogan-writing activity on the theme, "The Evidence is Clear: Invest in Prevention."
Additionally, a group of students presented a skit in the conference room, highlighting the dangers of drug abuse, particularly among teenagers.
Principal Prof RK Tewari praised the hard work of the organizers, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in combating drug abuse and promoting healthier lifestyles among youth.
At the Department of Pharmacology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, a lecture on drug abuse was organized by Chairman Prof Syed Ziaur Rahman. He elaborated on the significance of the day and shared his study on an animal model of morphine addiction. He focused on the consequences of drug abuse and its social, economic, and medical impacts. Later, he led resident doctors, interns, and staff in taking an e-pledge against drug abuse.
