Conference held on Sustainable Development



Aligarh: The Department of Civil Engineering in Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology at Aligarh Muslim University organised a two-day international conference on Sustainable Development in Air and Waste Management, in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering in Universiti Teknologi Brunei.

Eminent speakers from India and abroad delivered talks on different themes of the conference, while 150 research papers were presented in six technical sessions and four poster sessions.

During the inaugural function, the Organizing Secretary of the conference Prof Izharul Haq Farooqi, Chairperson of the Department welcomed the delegates and highlighted the achievements of the department.

Prof Nisar Ahmad, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology spoke about the importance of organising such events. Prof Mohd Muzammil, Principal, Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology highlighted the significance of sustainable development in the current environmental scenario.

Introducing the theme of the conference, Prof Mohd Hasnain Isa, Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Research) of Universiti Teknologi Brunei said this is the first conference after the signing of the MoU between the two universities.

The Guest of Honour Prof S Mohn, Vice Chancellor of Puducherry Technical University highlighted the research activities of the Department of Civil Engineering and praised the efforts of the organisers.

Another Guest of Honour Prof Anwar Hashsham of Michigan State University highlighted the significance of the emerging issue of the spread of antimicrobial resistance through consumption of contaminated water.

The Plenary talk was delivered by Prof R Qasim, Prof Emeritus, Department of Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington through video conferencing.

Dr Farrukh Basheer, Assistant Professor proposed a vote of thanks. Several eminent speakers from India and abroad including Prof Anwar Hashsham, Prof S Mohan, Prof M Hasnain Isa, Prof Mohd Jawed, Prof Mukesh Sharma, Prof M Absar Kazmi, Dr Jaya Rawat, Dr Anad Madhukar, and Prof Anwar Khursheed delivered talks on different themes of the conference.

Around 200 delegates attended the two-day event.
