Actor Alia Bhatt joined the online talk show 'The Wild Side' with Wildlife SOS to share her love for wildlife, the pandemic, and all about her initiative 'COEXIST by Alia Bhatt’ that actively advocates for animal rights!
In a conversation with Wildlife SOS co-founder and CEO, Kartick Satyanarayan, Alia shared that last year, she used the lockdown period to self-reflect and expressed concern over how the present pandemic has led to another pandemic of plastic pollution due to improper disposal of face masks and gloves. They discussed how wildlife and nature healed in the absence of humans, with animals frequenting human habitats without any interference.
Alia started her own charity called ‘Coexist by Alia Bhatt’ in 2017, which highlights the issues related to ecological and animal welfare. Talking about her charity, she reiterates her importance as a public figure and knew that it was time for her to use her voice for the voiceless. Coexist is also a platform where Alia aims to educate people as well as herself on the grappling issues of the environment.
She also talked about her latest initiative, “Mi Wardrobe is Su Wardrobe”(MiSu) which encourages sustainable fashion and increases awareness about reusing recycling, and up-cycling of garments to divert clothing from landfills and help reduce waste. Many other Bollywood celebrities like Anushka Sharma, Ranbir Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Sonakshi Sinha have also contributed to this initiative!
Alia Bhatt said, “I am a big admirer of the incredible work done by Wild-life SOS and it was an honor to have a conversation with you. Becoming an actor also gave me a platform to lend my voice to the voiceless. This pandemic has taught us that we are responsible for our planet and we must continue to do our bit to save it and learn to co-exist with wild counterparts!
