Triathlon athlete Mitch Hutchcraft supports elephant care efforts

As part of his extraordinary 12,000 km triathlon from England to the summit of Mount Everest, Mitch Hutchcraft, a former Royal Marine, athlete and influencer visited Wildlife SOS's Elephant Care and Conservation Centre in Mathura.

During his visit, Mitch learned about the past cruelty endured by elephants and the extensive rehabilitation and care efforts provided by Wildlife SOS at present. Mitch is undertaking a world record-breaking expedition that has never been attempted before. His mission aims to raise funds for the ‘Warriors of Hope’ programme, which offers animal-assisted therapy to veterans with mental health issues, in partnership with the Zoological Society of London.

Additionally, the programme trains veterans in wildlife crime prevention, repurposing their military skills to protect endangered species. Mitch's triathlon began on the shores of Dover and will culminate atop Mount Everest. The journey comprises four phases including cycling, swimming, trekking and climbing.

During his journey, Mitch discovered the conservation efforts of Wildlife SOS and visited the ECCC in Mathura. There, he gained insights into the organisation's work in conservation, rehabilitation and care for elephants. Mitch watched documentaries and observed the feeding, care and treatment of the elephants at ECCC, taking this heartwarming experience with him as he continued his journey.

Mitch actively promoted Wildlife SOS's 'Refuse to Ride' campaign, advising people to avoid close interactions with elephants, including riding or feeding them. He encouraged the public to respect and appreciate these magnificent creatures from a distance.
