National Mathematics Day observed in AMU



Aligarh: As part of the National Mathematics Day celebrations, observed to mark the birth anniversary of legendary Indian mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan, the Department of Mathematics, Aligarh Muslim University organized a workshop on “Recent Trends in Mathematics”, with the eminent mathematician, Prof. MA Pathan as a keynote speaker.

The other programmes held under the celebrations included Quiz competitions for Senior Secondary School, undergraduate, and postgraduate level students, PowerPoint Presentation competitions, and Poster Making competitions on the Theme “Mathematics in Nature”.

In his keynote address, Prof. Pathan spoke on Ramanujan and Numbers and discussed the importance of the works of Ramanujan and his genius.

Prof. Qamrul Hasan Ansari, Chairperson of the department and Dean, the Faculty of Science underscored the significance of the National Mathematics Day and appreciated the efforts of the faculty members and research students in earning the number one position for the department in India, according to the US News and World Report’s recent ranking.

Earlier, welcoming the guest speaker and the participants, the Convener of the Workshop, Prof. Kaleem Raza Kazmi highlighted the activities undertaken as part of the celebrations and their impact on students’ academic pursuits.

The winners of various events were felicitated on this occasion. Mohd. Junaid, a Ph.D. student, won the first prize in the PowerPoint Presentation competition, while Ayesha Jabin, Kunal Sharma, and Kanika Goyal won the first prizes in Quiz competitions for Senior Secondary School, undergraduate and postgraduate levels, respectively. The first prize in Poster Making competition was bagged by Asif Shahryar.
