Inauguration of Gestational Diabetes Clinic at JNMC



Aligarh: The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College of Aligarh Muslim University, inaugurated its new Gestational Diabetes Mellitus Clinic.

The clinic was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Professor Veena Maheshwari, Dean, Principal, and CMS of JNMC. Dr Shams Iqbal, a distinguished Interventional Radiologist from Harvard and a representative of the Aligarh Medical Alumni Association of North America, attended as the Guest of Honour.

Professor Veena Maheshwari lauded the Department for this innovative initiative, emphasising the clinic’s role in providing specialised care for patients with Gestational Diabetes. She congratulated the team for their dedication to advancing women's health through targeted medical services.

Prof Zehra Mohsin, Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, highlighted that the GDM Clinic will deliver dedicated obstetric and medical care to pregnant women diagnosed with GDM. The clinic's comprehensive services will include routine screenings, individualised care plans, dietary counselling, and regular follow-ups.

Professor Tamkin Khan, the Principal Investigator of the project, noted the clinic’s potential to contribute significantly to research and the improvement of GDM care. She expressed gratitude to AMAANA for their support, which includes funding for a counsellor, a lab technician, IEC materials, and free glucometers. The clinic will operate every Wednesday for IDDM patients and every Thursday for GDM patients managed with diet, from 2-4 pm.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Professor Sufiyan Beg, Chairman of the Alumni Affairs Committee, and faculty members, Professor Shaheen, Professor Nasreen Noor, and others.

Professor Tamkin extended thanks to AMAANA’s office bearers, including Dr Reshma Mahmud, Dr Tazeen Beg, and Dr Huma Ansari, for their support, and to Professor Veena Maheshwari and Professor Zehra Mohsin for their leadership and commitment to the department's progress.

This new clinic marks a significant step towards enhancing maternal healthcare at JNMC.
