Aligarh: The Department of Social Work at Aligarh Muslim University, concluded its seven-day Rural Winter Camp in Faridpur.
The final day of the camp showcased the work and talents of Social Work students, highlighting their engagement with the village community.
The event was attended by Prof Vibha Sharma, Prof Anwar Shahzad, Dr Ali Jafar Abedi, Suraj Pal Upadhyay, Dr Muhammad Tahir, Dr Shyna Saif, Dr Mohd Arif Khan, Dr Andleeb, Dr Mohd Uzair, and Dr Sameera Khanam.
As the Chief Guest, Prof Vibha Sharma engaged with school students and commended the MSW participants for their commitment to social learning and community outreach. She highlighted that social work transcends mere profession. It is a profound emotion that bridges the divide between privileged and underprivileged sections of society. Emphasizing the power of effective communication, she stressed the need for skits to balance direct messaging, entertainment, and gravity to leave a lasting impact.
In his welcome address, Dr Mohd Tahir highlighted the camp’s core objectives, aimed at promoting awareness of critical issues such as cancer and its causes, sanitation and hygiene, mental health challenges, the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation initiative, the significance of education, and environmental conservation. These goals were effectively pursued through dedicated voluntary groups comprising students from both previous and final-year batches.
Prof Anwar Shahzad commended the students for their Nukkad Nataks and group presentations. He also appreciated the cleanliness and hygiene standards maintained at the school and welcomed the newly established Master’s in Public Health Program.
Dr Ali Jafar Abedi appreciated students’ participation, highlighting the importance of mutual learning and frequent follow-ups to address emerging social challenges. He assured that Community Medicine would continue to play an essential role in future interventions.
The event was coordinated by Dr Mohd Arif Khan, who invited faculty members to felicitate the guests. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr Shyna Saif, who expressed appreciation for the efforts of Chairman Prof. Naseem Ahmad, under whose guidance the weeklong camp was held.
