Aligarh: The Centre of Continuing and Adult Education and Extension at Aligarh Muslim University organized an extramural lecture on ‘Education and Personality Development’ by the former Director of the Centre, Prof Mohd Parvez, Department of Education.
In his lecture, Prof Parvez highlighted the significance of personality development in a student’s life. He said it is important for a person striving to make a good career in life, to focus on improving his or her communication skills and become a master of interpretations at least in two industrially communicative languages.
He said that personality is the total of an individual’s behaviour in social situations, and behaviour includes not only overt acts but also inner feelings produced by these situations. He elaborated on formal, informal and non-formal education. While referring to the definitions given by JF Dashiell and JP Guilford, he said that hereditary and environmental factors, including family, cultural and social environment, are crucial in shaping a person's personality.
He stressed the role of education in personality development, urging the learners to remain positive, develop new interests, pay attention to body language, and be supportive towards good deeds.
The Director of the Centre, Dr Shamim Akhtar extended a vote of thanks.
