Breastfeeding discussed during World Breastfeeding Week

Aligarh: To celebrate World Breastfeeding Week, the faculty members, doctors, residents and interns participated in a series of programmes held at the Rural Health Training Centre in Jawan, which works under the management of the Department of Community Medicine, JN Medical College of Aligarh Muslim University.

The Chairperson of the department Prof Saira Mehnaz guided the programme while Prof Uzma Eram, Member Incharge of RHTC, supervised the events.

The week-long celebration began with a health talk by Dr Al Hilal Yousuf Sheik and Dr Anchal Negi, highlighting this year’s theme, “Closing the gap: Breastfeeding support for all”.

The 2019 batch Interns, Huzaif Anwar and Himani Gupta talked about the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding and complementary feeding. A short film was also shown highlighting the importance of breastfeeding.

The interns of different batches participated in the slogan writing and Rangoli competitions and also engaged the local school children in the Rangoli and drawing events to make them aware of the significance of breastfeeding.

The Member Incharge of the Centre Prof Uzma Eram led an awareness rally of resident doctors, interns and staff.

Dr Tabassum Nawab demonstrated methods of breastfeeding and discussed the importance of breastfeeding to mothers and their families.

An interactive Question-Answer game session was organized for mothers by Dr Asma Ashraf and Dr Abirami S while Laiba Hashmi talked about exclusive breastfeeding and Dr Shubham Upadhyay shared details of how rooming-in is necessary.

At the concluding session, Dr Asma Ashraf gave a welcome address while Dr Chelsea and other interns presented a skit on “Breastfeeding is a blessing”. The mothers, who practised Exclusive Breastfeeding were felicitated and the winners of various events were felicitated by Prof Saira Mehnaz and Dr Tabassum Nawab with certificates and gifts.

Dr Tabassum Nawab extended a vote of thanks.
